Your Phone a Canary? Poison Dectecting Cell Phones.

So now your phone does things like allow you to watch Tv, browse the Web, GPS and other countless things. Did you ever think that your phone would be able to detect poisonous gases? The Department of Homeland Security wants to create cell phones that will detect lethal gases. Currently their Science and Technology Directorate is working on about 40 different prototypes before the end of the year. The technology which is fairly simple and already developed, would required manufacturers to embed a chip that would detect the deadly gasses. The cost being less then a $1 per phone, could prevent numerous fatalities and the possibility of early detection during a chemical attack. Depending on the severity, the phone would either just sent you a notice telling you to vacate to a more serious scenario in which the phone would send out the alert and also to a group to further investigate the situation.
