PERFORMING CALLS WITH A BLACKBERRY BOLD 9700
BlackBerry’s latest offering the Bold 9700 seem to have spent considerable time in the gym. The BlackBerry Bold 9700 now comes in a more compact and slim design factor that makes it appealing to a broader spectrum of cellphone users. Similar in form and shape as the BlackBerry Curve, the phone’s design could only be described as stylish.
Along with the phones sleeker structure, the Bold 9700 comes with a wide array of basic and advance calling features that the Blackberry name has long been known for. Call quality could only be described as excellent and tests showed that the Bold 9700 passed solidly. The phone built-in speaker made a good account for itself, providing clear and crisp communications even in New York’s busy streets. It was also refreshing to know that the call quality didn’t suffer from me switching to the speakerphone during calls. In fact, recipients of the calls didn’t notice the change.
Call Features
Call features has long been a strong suit for BlackBerry phones making them a popular choice for business professionals. The Blackberry Bold 9700 comes with a wide array of call management features that makes it a capable and effective communication tool.
Basic call features included in the phone are:
Phone number. To view your cellphone number, simply go to the Home Screen and choose the Send key. Your current cellphone number is displayed beside the My Number field located at the top of the phone’s screen.
- Multiple Phone numbers. For those with multiple phone numbers, to view the list of current phone numbers press the Send key from your Home Screen. Choose the My Number field and the first phone number shown displays the active number used for sending out SMS and MMS messages.
- Call Forwarding. To enable call forwarding options on your BlackBerry, the service should first be setup with your mobile provider. The Bold 9700 offers its users the option of activating or disabling the service by simply choosing Forward All Calls or Do Not Forward. To access the menu, press the Send key from the Home Menu screen. Choose Menu and click on Options to display the choice of activating or disabling call forwarding.
- Call Waiting. Feature should first be activated with your mobile provider. To activate or disable this call feature, go to the Home Screen and press the Send key. Hit the Menu key and press Options, click Call Waiting and click Yes to activate Call waiting and No to disable the service.
- TTY Teletype. The BlackBerry 9700 also comes with at TTY (Teletype) feature for people who may have hearing difficulties. TTY devices convert voice into text messages enabling persons with hearing difficulties to carry out conversations. Cellphone owners who wish to avail of the service must first verify with their mobile carriers if the feature is supported on the network. TTY devices require data transfers of at least 45.45 bits per second to operate. To activate the service go to home screen and press Send, choose Menu and hit Options, click on TTY to activate the service.
- Conference calls. The handset allows two types of conference calls. If you already have a conference number setup, you could easily access this and start a conference by setting it up on your cellphones calendar. Making a conference call is easy with a one touch option provided for users with BlackBerry devices. If you don’t have a conference bridge number, you can easily make a conference call by dialing multiple contacts and joining the calls. The BlackBerry 9700 also provides another special feature for making private calls even on a conference call. To access this feature, during a conference call, click on Menu and choose Split Call, press Menu and click Join to return to the conference.
- Emergency calls. It is possible to make outbound calls even when you find yourself outside your networks coverage area. However, the SOS wireless coverage indicator should appear before you can make an emergency call. emergency wireless coverage depends on your cellphones model and wireless mobile provider. When the SOS indicator appears only emergency calls or 911 and 112 numbers are available for contact.
