The Cell Phone Safety Debate

In the United States we keep receiving conflicting information concerning the safety of cell phone usage. In other countries such as Italy and Spain there is an uproar of discontent concerning the fact that they believe the government is putting their lives at risk by not further investigating the risk of usage. We keep hearing conflicting information concerning this issue and its difficult to speak of the topic without sounding like some psycho conspirator due to the fact that we as Americans are completely ignorant to the many things that harm us daily and we continue to partake in these risky activities such as smoking. Reputable International newspapers have all began to report findings from international studies which seemed to be linked to a higher incident rate of brain tumors and certain cancers, but not so much in the United States. How can we be so sure that sending Microwaves directly into our brain is not affecting our DNA?

In the mid 90s biophysicist for the University of Washington Henry Lai found that the structure of rat DNA was changing and damaged within only two hours of use. Also from the damning 1992 lawsuit filed by a Florida resident for the death of his wife via brain tumor, cellular companies began to scramble and discredit stories of increased tumors and independent studies on the matter. Thus began the cellular industry lead studies on the matter many of which was not going to show any harmful effects. Only 25% of studies funded by the industry found any effects compared to 75% by independently funded studies. Even scientist who’s work was funded by the cellular industry and found risk have been pressured to not release their findings.

The same waves which are also found in WiFi systems have caused many concerns in Europe even to the point where the major library of Saint Genevieve in Paris was shutdown due to a petition and wired connections were reinstated. There have been anonymous reports of wall street bigwigs who spend countless hours daily on cell phones being struck down with brain tumors and each of these individuals were also aware of coworkers who also suffered the same fate. A bout of coincidence or a solid evidence of a health risk that we may not be informed of due to industry strong holding?
